Sugar
Diabetes mellitus, also called diabetes, is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood sugar (glucose) levels in the body. This condition occurs when the body either does not produce enough insulin or cannot effectively use the insulin it does produce. Over time, high blood sugar levels can lead to serious complications affecting the heart, kidneys, eyes, and nerves. The two most common forms are Type 1 diabetes, which is usually diagnosed in childhood and requires insulin therapy, and Type 2 diabetes, which typically develops in adults and is often linked to lifestyle factors such as poor diet, obesity, and lack of exercise. Managing diabetes effectively involves regular monitoring, a balanced diet, physical activity, and in many cases, medication or herbal support.
